I had hoped for a walking guide. This is really just a tourist souvenir book that gives a rough outline of the island and different areas. I should have paid more attention to the 'Look inside' pages. I gave it to my mother to remind her of her day trip to Skye and she likes it, so not all wasted.

Not so much an Island Guide as a coffee table book with large pictures. Not really useful for planning a holiday.

The Pevensey guides are an excellent series and this one for the Isle of Skye is no exception. Lots of information and good photographs. Was an invaluable help along with others in the series covering the Western Isles on our recent trip to Scotland.Skye (Pevensey Island Guides)

A good introduction to the Isle of Skye. The author has achieved a well balanced book that takes you on a tour of Skye, and its history also covering well worth routes and walks without overdoing any particular subject. An enjoyable read, would definitely recommend.

It's not really a guide book as it doesn't contain maps or directions. It shows beautiful images to entice you and detailed text about the heritage, landscape etc but you'll need something else to guide you around the island.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this guide to Skye. It describes each area of the island in turn, covering the geography and the main tourist places of interest but in addition it provides fascinating information about the history of Skye and its people - the viking invasions, norse place names, the drovers roads (did you know that many Scots were hired to work on the cattle ranches in the USA because of their expertise in handling cattle droves, becoming the cowboys of the Wild West?), the clearances and emigrations, the history of the church on Skye, the clans (particularly the McLeods and their rivals the MacDonalds) and so on. A great guide for anyone planning a visit to Skye.

A book that informs the reader of what the Isle of Skye is all about. Covers history of the island and where to see it's dramatic beauty.
