the problem with this book is that the print is so small it becomes quite a strain to read it. Pity. The content is fine.

Bought this before seeing the "too flowery" comments. Started reading, what a pile of dross - a great subject and this writer annhilates it with his long winded and yes - FLOWERY prose. Why use one word when 200 will do ? A great disservice to a fascinating subject. Gave it back to Amazon and got refund

A thorough and appropriately detailed ruler by ruler walk through early British History, my only desire would be to lose some of the prose and flowery descriptions which were sometimes so lengthy that they lost their power.

Beware! This is a 19th century book presented as if it were written in the last twelve months. Download a sample and read it before buying - you may hate it.

This is not simply a dry history review but is delivered in a non lecturing manner suitable in the style of a novel, with a number of asides and anecdotes. I am currently half way through reading the book and it has retained my interest to want to continue reading to the conclusion.

Sorry it's a shame but this very interesting subject has been ruined by the aforementioned 'flowery' style and is packed out with unnecessary fluff.. unreadable

I have a lot of history books and I love this one also very interesting

Well written although the prose is a bit flowery, good for academics.
