Nehru's account in his often poetic, flowery and beautiful language is poignant and revealing. His autobiography gives a first hand account of India's struggle against imperialism. This book also shatters the myth that Nehru was an acolyte of Gandhi, he was a statesman in his own right and his opinions and approach was very different on many matters from that of Gandhi. Also an important work for understanding the ideas that shaped the birth of a nation post 1947.

If you are interested in India and its history this is a great book to read alongside Nehru's Letters to A Nation and Glimpses of World History. In his autobiography Nehru tells only a little about his childhood , but he writes with humility and honesty about the events that made him a statesman. I hadn't realised that Nehru was such a wonderful writer.
